Why the Right Club Fit Matters More Than the Team Number
As club volleyball tryouts approach, families everywhere begin asking the same questions:
Should we switch clubs?
Will being on a higher-numbered team help recruiting?
What environment is truly best for my athlete?
At Empowered Volleyball Academy, we believe the answer goes far beyond a team number.
College coaches and experienced volleyball leaders consistently emphasize that development, coaching, competitiveness, and character matter far more than whether an athlete plays on a “1’s” or “2’s” team. Athletes who train in positive, challenging environments — where coaches invest in skill development, confidence, accountability, and leadership — are often better prepared for long-term success both on and off the court.
The right club should help athletes:
- Develop technically and tactically
- Build confidence through meaningful playing opportunities
- Learn leadership and teamwork
- Compete in a healthy, positive culture
- Grow as both athletes and people
Sometimes athletes believe joining a different club or higher-numbered team automatically improves recruiting opportunities. In reality, college coaches are looking for athletes who are coachable, competitive, hardworking, and fundamentally sound — regardless of team designation. Playing time, growth, and quality training often matter much more than simply wearing a certain jersey.
At Empowered Volleyball Academy, our focus is centered on athlete development first. We believe every player deserves quality coaching, opportunities to improve, and an environment where they feel valued and empowered to reach their potential. Success is not defined by a number next to a team name — it’s defined by growth, confidence, preparation, and passion for the game.
Every athlete’s journey is different. The best choice is the one that supports long-term development, builds confidence, and creates opportunities for success both during the season and beyond volleyball.
When evaluating a club, families should ask:
- Does this environment challenge and support my athlete?
- Will my athlete continue developing here?
- Are the coaches invested in player growth?
- Does the culture align with our values?
- Will my athlete have opportunities to compete and improve?
At the end of the day, the right fit matters more than the label. The goal is not simply making a certain team — it’s becoming the best athlete, teammate, and person possible.
That’s what Empowered Volleyball Academy is all about.
